A flat rectangular plate (kaku, 角) painted by hand with a loose indigo pattern: fine black lines, blue grass, concentric rings, dandelion or a scatter of speckles. The 9.5-inch holds a roll for one; the 11.5-inch is a sharing plate for two. Lay them end to end down a table for a very good dinner party.
