A single sheer panel in an open, slubby linen weave that turns hard daylight into a soft haze (kasumi, 霞). Hang it in a window, across a doorway, or in front of a shelf you would rather not look at. It lets the light through and keeps the room private, which is most of what a curtain has to do.
