A slatted soap rest in carbonised (sumiyaki, 炭焼) bamboo and wood. The charring darkens the grain and helps the wood shrug off water; the open slats let the bar dry between uses so it lasts longer and does not turn to mush. The first piece of a slower bathroom.

Carbonised bamboo and wood, about 11 × 8 cm. Hand-finished; grain and colour vary. Rinse and air-dry.
